1937 Derby Bentley 4.25 Liter Overdrive ‘MR Series’ for sale.

Chassis number: B-74-MR

Registration number: GS8516

One of only 200 ‘M’ Series overdrive cars built. This Derby Bentley 4.25 is fitted with the standard high ratio rear axle making for very long legged and rapid cruising at modern day speeds.

The Derby Bentley 4.25 was re-bodied in 1978 to a James Young design as a two seater drop head, replacing the original Mulliner 2 door Saloon coachwork that had come to the end of its useful life.  The aluminum coachwork is very elegant with a sweeping tail line giving a streamlined fastback appearance with the roof down.  The Derby Bentley 4.25 has an easily erected black canvas hood that stows in the boot or behind the rear seats.

The Derby Bentley 4.25 is finished in two tone mid blue over dark blue. To the interior is black leather matched with black carpets.  The wooden dash board is recently refinished and contains the full complement of the usual instrumentation.

Mechanically the Derby Bentley 4.25 is in fine order with the engine having been fully overhauled and rebuilt by noted ‘Marque’ specialists, Ristes of Nottingham just 13,000 miles ago.  The Derby Bentley 4.25 comes with extensive records from the last decades attesting to regular servicing and fettling.

The engine starts readily and is a quiet powerful unit.  This, combined with the light weight coachwork makes it a fast touring car well suited to rallies and long distance travel.
