1925 Sunbeam 20/60 Short Chassis Super Sport DHC.

Chassis number: 1704ED
Registration number: RK3517

Rare & beautiful; this Sunbeam unusually wears coachwork by Brainsby of Peterborough; unusual in that most 20/60 models were bodied at the factory. There were several other Sunbeams bodied by Brainsby in this period, but most were open tourers making this doctors coupe a notable exception. The coachwork is rakish & desirable with the hood easily folding back for convertible motoring. To the rear is a spacious dickie seat for two additional passengers.

The car had a body off restoration in the late 1980's with a photographic record being taken. Since then it has been used at home & abroad including an ascent of the mighty Stelvio pass in Italy. The car during the last ownerships been continually fettled & improved, the subject of substantial expenditure. It comes to us in first rate running condition with a strong powerful engine & far more sporting character then an equivalent Rolls Royce of the period.

The car is finished in Dark Green to the Wings & top surfaces with very pale green to the sides. The paint is in fine order. To the interior is lovely burgundy leather throughout with just the right amount of aging to fell like a favorite arm chair. Woodwork is all equally fine with a dash that extends forward to the delightfully raked Vee windscreen.

Under the bonnet the three litre six is well detailed & tidy. It starts readily & exhibits really strong performance running easily in modern traffic. A large & sonorous Klaxon is fitted to the bulkhead. The black hood is also in good order & folds back easily after releasing two catches. Erecting it is a similarly simple affair. An original brass Pyrex fire extinguisher is also mounted to the bulk head with a more modern item stowed in the running board mounted tool box.

This is a fine rare large engined vintage car in perfect running order & is fitted with very rare coachwork; we suspect a one off.
