1953 Bentley R Type boat tail Special
Chassis number: B201SP
Registration Number: 3123H
Built without regard to cost. The gentleman who commissioned this car sourced an R type in very good uncorroded condition as a starting point. The standard steel boody was disgarded & the chassis sent to noted Body builder Stuart Roach to have the lovely boat tail body we find today manufactured & fitted to the chassis.
Build was completed around 2016 & since then the car has covered some 4000 or so miles on local jaunts & rallies. The car is configured as a four seater with two additional seats underneath the removeable rear cowling. Full weather gear comes with the car coveing the front two seats as does a tonneau cover. A useful luggage space is found under the flip up aluminium boat tail rear section making it a very practical tourer & long distance rally car.
Performance on this car is excellent given the light body on the standard R type underpinnigs. The aluminium dash board & cord wrapped steering wheel give a pleasantly vintage feel to the driving experience. The red leather bucket type seats are in brand new condition & are both comfortable & supportive. The car sits on nearly new blockley tyres fitted to wire wheels retained by knock off hub spinners..
We have put over 100 miles on the car & can report that it drives beautifully. Performance is effortless & the engine smooth & powerful. The dark Navy blue paintwork is flawless & in perfect condition. A large file of bills & build pictures come with the car showing the body under construction & attesting to the huge expenditure that has gone into creating this car. It is without doubt one of the more practical specials we have handled having seating for 4 people & very adeuate provision for luggage.
