1953 Bentley R Type H.J. Mulliner Lightweight Saloon
Chassis number: B259SP
Registartion Number: NXV797
In the current family ownership since 1985, the car is now to be sold due to the passing of its previous custodian. Substantial works have been undertaken in the last two years to put the car in excellent driving order. To that end a plethora of bills come with the car from marque specialists Overtons Vehicle Overhauls & Glen Grindrod totalling over £9,000 pounds. Works included a full braking system overhaul, a new head gasket & rebuilding the one shot lubrication system. The head has been torqued down & a new brake servo lining installed.
The current mileage indicated is 9584. A full set of MOT certifciates come with the car showing incremental mileage from 51,586 in 1980 to 109,584 present day. There is also a bill on file from stainless steel exhaust specialists Hayward & Scott. An original handbook comes with the car.
The car is finished in a pleasing Burgundy over Silver colour scheme with the older paint still presenting well albeit with some minor mottling to the bonnet top & bood lid. To the interior is lovely burgundy hide which according to the cars records was refurbished by Connoly in the 1980's. All woodwork has been removed & beautifully re-varnished to a mirror like finish including the rear occasional tables. Underfoot are dark red carpets in very good order. The drivers window is equipped with a fast up/down mechanism. The boot contains the spare wheel which has a custom made cover fitted to it. Headlining is original & in fine order.
Possibly the best part about this car is the actual driving experience. It starts readily & runs in complete silence. The engine is smooth & powerful easily accelerating to an indicated 90MPH where permitted with more to come. The engine runs cool & exhibits excellent oil pressure. This is indeed a comfortable way to travel with huge room in the back & the car is well able to run on motorways with modern traffic. The suspension is quiet, supple & gives a gently undulating ride cosseting one from outside noises & road bumps. The rear axle is from a continental spec car making it very very long legged & relaxed at speed.
All in all a pleasing car driving very well & with a pleasant light patina of use to it. This car was clearly much loved & well looked after by the previous elderly long term custodian.
