1924 Bentley 3 Litre Speed model VDP style Tourer
Registration Number: XU3123
Chassis Number: 635
What a Glorious & pretty example of a minimalist & pure 3 litre Bentley open tourer. Such a pleasure to drive compared with the much heavier cars the later models became.
A desirable Speed model with genuine engine to chassis matching, a racing ‘A’ gearbox and ‘sloper’ carburettors. The original VDP coachwork has been replaced by a beautifully executed replica Vanden Plas tourer body with blade wings closely resembling Bentley’s first winning car at Le Mans in 1924.
The car was restored to the highest standards, both mechanically and cosmetically, over a lengthy period which was completed in 2021. The rebuilt engine was fitted with a new crankshaft and the present owner has installed a new gearbox, the stronger ‘4 star’ differential and new clutch ring.
The car also benefits from the larger 16-gallon fuel tank for long range touring, Scintilla magnetos for utter reliability and a vacuum brake servo.
Its external appearance is enhanced by matching Lucas ‘bell’ head and side lamps and CAV ‘divers helmet’ rear lamps.
This car is set up for serious long-distance rallies, starts ‘on the button’ and has proved to be completely reliable, having undertaken many trips both at home and abroad. Fuel is delivered by the traditional Autovac system but with the option of reverting to an SU pump if ever necessary.
Little but regularly used in recent years, the current owner, a passionate and meticulous vintage car enthusiast, has now decided to sell the car for reasons of advancing years and declining health.
The interior of the car is black leather in very good condition with a very light patina of use & all the better for it frankly. The exterior is blue Rexine fabric making a pleasing change to the more often seen green. New tyres are fitted all round including the side mounted spare.
