1951 Bentley Mark 6 H.J.Mulliner 'Lightweight' Saloon.

Chassis number: B193HP

Registration number. LXU 595

The H.J.Mulliner ‘Lightweight’ design is particularly interesting, being in many ways several years ahead of the trend, having a mid-fifties appearance rather than its 1951 date, but at the same time having a delightful vertically divided windscreen, reminiscent of a slightly earlier era perhaps.  Indicated miles are 74,000.  Indeed one can see lines from the later silver cloud  in this model particularly evident from the side view.  The H.J. Mulliner of Chiswirk Body Number is 4940 as per a numbered plaque on the bulkhead.  Very spacious inside the car is well suited to carrying rear passengers whilst providing ample room for the front occupants.

This example is a good, sound one, benefitting from recent expenditure of about £30,000 with a previous owner who bought the car from the Real Car Company. Bills on file From Marque specialists Rohdins of Sweden attest to the extensive works undertaken.  Mechanically and structurally good, very sound, useable, smart, clean and tidy without being too smart to use and enjoy. The front seats have recently been nicely re-upholstered in pale grey hide, the remainder being original grey leather in decent useable but patinated condition.  All the woodwork is original to the car in a matt finish with particularly nice figuring to the large walnut dash board & rear picnic tables.  The headlining is also in good order.

The car has been upgraded to a twin exhaust system (as fitted to the later 'big bore' versions) in stainless steel, including tubular stainless manifolds and the car comes with a comprehensive history file which includes, amongst various documents, letters, invoices, etc, the original logbook from 1951. The car drives extremely well, with a lively 'go anywhere' feel to it. The engine is smooth & silent & the gear changes easily made.  To the rear is a capacious boot also containing the full size spare tyre.

These coach Built Mark 6 cars are really special items having cost close to double what a standard steel example would have fetched.  The Aluminum panel work is not prone to rust & is of course very very light which translates into how well the car feels & rides.   It is a super example of the coachbuilders art & is simply a pleasure to drive.
