Vintage and Prestige Fine Motor Cars are proud to be offering this AC Cobra 289 FIA Le Mans for sale.

Based on a chassis and bodywork supplied by Hawk Cars, this is one of the finest replica 289 AC Cobra FIA ‘Le Mans’ available. This bespoke, hand-built AC Cobra 289 FIA Le was manufactured in collaboration with respected Cobra guru, Gerry Hawkridge of Hawk Cars based on his stunning MkII Cobra chassis and body.

The initial idea was to construct a MkII AC Cobra for track, sprints and hill-climbs and naturally, like many good ideas, it got totally out of hand! This AC Cobra has been featured on BBC Television performing at Brands Hatch for presenter Paul Ross. It has also featured in numerous magazine articles including Cobra, Total Kit Car and Kit Car Specification. Also seen on Ronnie's redneck road trip'...Dave TV..AC COBRA 289 

Chassis:
Hawk 289 chassis, lightened, modified suspension pick up points to allow for vehicle to sit 50mm lower, rear of chassis modified to accommodate fitment of double wishbone suspension.

Roll Cage:
Full roll cage installed by Street Steel finished in white powder-coating. Designed originally to meet strict FIA requirements to give full protection whilst also stiffening the chassis to negate any flex that may occur under extreme driving conditions. Roll cage is attached to the front suspension mounts, chassis below scuttle, chassis behind driver and to rear most point of chassis. It is also cross-braced and gives the driver’s cabin offering complete protection.

Suspension:
Front - Hawk fully adjustable double wishbone coil over shock. Avo shocks, Faulkner 9 x 2.5 250lbs springs. 18mm anti-roll bar.
Rear – Hawk fully adjustable double wishbone coil over shock. Avo shocks, Faulkner 9 x 2.25 325lbs springs. Hub carriers are bespoke aluminium billet machined.
Set-up – a full diametric suspension and corner weight set-up was carried out by suspension guru John Hewat of Aeon Sports Cars (www.aeonsportscars.co.uk) when the car was commissioned.

Wheels: 
Knock on Peg drive period 15” Aluminium Hilabrand style wheels imported from the USA last year.

Electrics:
Bespoke harness made by Martin Santos of Electrical Car Services, fitted with twin FIA battery isolators (one to dash, one to bonnet). Remote race jump-starter located under dash for ease of access.

Fire Protection:
Lifeline 4ltr Fire Marshal system. Fully plumped in to engine bay and driver cockpit with activation handles on exterior body-work and dashboard. 
The FIA fire protection system has recently been fully refurbished with brand new lightweight aluminium bottle and activation handles all supplied by Lifeline.

Cockpit:

• Road – original and highly sought after leather seats supplied by Hawk Cars, cost £1,200 when purchased in 2011.

• Road – Willans harnesses (4 point). Black in colour.

• Road – period correct wood-rimmed Mota Lita steering wheel (15” flat profile design).


Dashboard instruments include 180mph speedo, 8000rpm tachometer, oil pressure gauge, oil temperature gauge, water temperate gauge, voltmeter, ATL fuel gauge.

Ignition, fuel pumps and radiator fan are controlled by separate switches on a Tanner Race Panel. Audible alarms are fitted to both oil pressure and indicators. Toggle switches control lights and wipers with a push / pull switch for dipped main beam. 
Brake balance is also controlled from the dashboard via a hand operated Tilton wheel. The dashboard also has an electronic Brantz trip computer and map reading light for the navigator.

Engine
Ford Motorsport 302 5ltr GT-40 spec MB-6007-XB3. Edelbrock Performer heads, Edelbrock Performer Inlet Manifold, roller-rockers, M-6250-B303 cam, 9.0:1 compression ratio, GT-40 valve train, Pertronix electronic ignition and Flame Thrower coil (with Mallory dual point ignition back-up), Holley 650cfm 4 barrel carb. Moroso ‘spiral core’ 8mm plug leads. Bespoke aluminium oil catch tank. Fram oil filter (the oil and filter has been changed every 500 miles during my ownership).
Engine re-built to my specification by Redline Engineering and maintained regardless of cost by American V8 specialist Trevor Kitney at Surrey Mustang.
Cooling
Hawk radiator (large), single 12” high out Davies Craig fan (thermal & manual switch), Carter FP1416 water pump, Mocol oil cooler.
Exhaust
 
• Road - bespoke large bore manifolds in stainless steel manufactured by Surrey Mustang. Twin exhaust system with 18 inch glass-packs on each side. Creates a delicious 105dB noise that puts hairs on your chest and reminds you what real motoring is about!

Clutch & Gearbox:
Ford Motorsport racing clutch, external slave cylinder with servo assistance.
Tremec COBRA “R” TR3550-1.
Differential
Cosworth limited slip differential. Ratio 3.62.
Fuel System
ATL 45ltr racing fuel cell (supplied with foam liner), installed in rear boot, complete with twin pick-ups, piped vent and ball valve. Two JEGS competition fuel pumps installed in the boot, switched separately from dash to allow for back-up in the event of failure of one of the pumps. All fuel lines Goodridge racing made by BG Motorsport. Fuel filtering provided by oversized JEGS competition filter with regulator and pressure gauge (under bonnet).

Body Shell:
Hawk 289 FIA shell with doors, bonnet and boot lids constructed in carbon fibre for minimum weight and maximum strength. Le Mans hardtop with Plexi-Glass rear screen and quick release fixings enabling the hardtop to be removed in minutes. 
All body components are finished in gel coat for maximum durability. 
Period correct aluminium Raydot racing mirrors are mounted on the windscreen pillars with original pattern aluminium brackets (mirrors can also be fitted to the wings as shown in some of the photos). Period correct ‘pit lifters’ (in black aluminium) and tow eyes are fitted to the car front and rear (and can quickly be removed or installed).
Period correct glass wind deflectors are fitted to both sides of the car as well as Plexi-Glass side-screens (which can be removed or installed in seconds).
Additional Information
A comprehensive history accompanies the car, including 2 box files including many original receipts from the build, servicing bills, past MOTs ect.. No expense has been spared on this wonderful Cobra.
