The first significant up-grade of Jaguar's sensational E-Type sports car occurred in October 1964 with the launch of a 4.2-litre version, which featured an all-synchromesh gearbox and a host of other improvements as well as the bigger, torquier engine. The E-Type's top speed of around 150mph remained unchanged, the main performance gain resulting from the larger engine being improved acceleration. Like its 3.8-litre forbear, the 4.2-litre E-Type was built in roadster and coupé forms, and in 1966 was joined by an additional 'family friendly' 2+2 coupé variant on a longer wheelbase. With the 2+2's increased length and additional rear seats came greater headroom, more luggage space, improved heating/ventilation and optional automatic transmission.
This stunning E-Type comes to us in excellent condition with a well documented history file showing annual services and an eye watering amount spent on both the restoration and maintenance.
KOM was imported from California and purchased by Mr Perks in 1992, he immediately commissioned a full ground up restoration to be undertaken. The thick ring binder is full of invoices and pictures showing the true attention to detail taken to restore this E-Type. The end result was truly remarkable, the bodywork and chassis being finished in light blue which still holds a beautiful sheen and is complimented by the shining chromework.
At this point the engine was also fully stripped and rebuilt, and has covered a mere 35,000 miles since the restoration was completed in 1998.
Mr Perks kept KOM until the year 2000 when he sol her to Mr Tabbenor with a scarce 387 miles on the clock.
The current owner (a close friend of Mr Tabbenor) purchased the 2+2 only 5 months later and has owner her ever since. He states that he has been the only one behind the wheel since this point and that KOM has been serviced annually, stored in the winter months and never driven on salty roads.
The works undertaken through his restoration is impressive; yet painful when you tally it all up, however this has resulted in a beautiful driving E-Type.
October 2000 the American ratio Differential was changed for a 3.07 Powerlok Diff.
March 03: Seats re-trimmed and re-padded.
July 07: New Front shock absorbers.
October 2010: New Motor-Lita Steering wheel.
June 2013: New Clutch slave cylinder. The owner states that this is the only breakdown he has ever suffered whilst motoring in the E-Type.
May 2014: Dash instruments repaired, serviced and re-calibrated. Full re-wire undertaken by the known specialist Ken Jenkins. Since this point the car was serviced my Ken Jenkins, his invoices show the detail taken to have this 2+2 motoring as well as possible.
Prior to this point Mr Peters undertook annual services at Wiltons Garages, he retired in 2014 hence the move.
